the green table

This weekend, T-rav* and I went on a lil camping trip to Southwest Colorado. We met up with ryry (who has been in law school in Texas for the past 6 months) and saw all sorts of coolies things like...

The Four Corners Monument (think Indians, turqoise, flatbread, and desert), which brings my total-states-visited to 38 by adding New Mexico to the list...

And some Indian ruins at Hovenweep National Monument...

And, of course, Mesa Verde. Unfortunately for us, we came at a time of year when half of the park was still closed due to the weather, so we only were able to see a few of the ruins. But it was still pretty fantastic and I highly recommend going there.

One of the first things I'm going to find out after I die is why so many Indians (Anasazi, Mayan, Aztec, Incan, etc) simply disappeared. Did they die off? Did they move somewhere else but remained undercover for centuries? Did they assimilate into another culture that didn't bother to record their coming? What happened to them? Where did their languages go? Where did they go?
