Poll

So my sister, who got married in Brazil last December, is finally going to be able to move back to the US with her husband. Hoo-rah! The original plan was for her to get married in Brazil and then, as soon as possible, come to the US and have a reception here. Unfortunately for her, that didn't quite work out as quickly as she hoped: they're planning on finally arriving in August or September.

Now, even though it will have been 9 months since her marriage, she still wants to have a reception, but she's not sure if she should. She especially wants to wear her wedding dress. Her question for you all is if it would a) be weird if she had a reception in general; b) be especially weird if she wore her wedding dress. Please leave a comment and/or respond to the poll on the right. Thanks!

I don't think there's anything weird about having a reception. She should totally go for it.

I think she should go for it as well. She hasn't had a chance to celebrate with her friends and family in the US so she should get that chance. And if she wants to wear her dress, I say go for it. I'm not an etiquette expert, my opinion most of the time is who cares what everyone else thinks!

I think that it should be billed as an open house or just a party rather than a reception per se. as for the wedding dress, it depends on what it looks like. If it's pretty traditional, I say don't do it. I like the one in her picture on facebook (you look gorgeous in it, Krust!).

Yes, absolutely wear the dress if she wants to. Heck, if I'm invited I may wear my dress. This is her reception and who cares if others think it's weird (I don't, by the way). In 10 years she will remember her reception and that's what matters.

Your poll would only let me vote once....so Jamieson doesn't get a say....except here in the comments. He says yes have a reception, but no don't wear the dress, because it's way to long since the wedding. But I say depending on the fanciness of the dress, maybe you can wear it. Maybe you can invite everyone to wear their wedding dresses, then it wouldn't be weird at all. kelly and I would have to take turns, except for the fact that I could never fit into that dress again. Good luck Kristi.
